Tamara A. Sutherland, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Sutherland received her medical degree from the State University of New York at the Buffalo School of Medicine. She completed her internship and pediatric residency at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia. She is designated as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Dr. Sutherland joined Associates in Pediatrics in July of 2003, three years after Associates in Pediatrics was founded by Dr. Keith Derco. After Dr. Derco retired in 20017, she became the senior partner at Associates in Pediatrics. She has twice received a awards from the American Academy of Pediatrics for exceeding standard requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME). Dr. Sutherland was highlighted in the Top Docs issue of Richmond magazine in April of 2012. She is also an active member of the Shady Grove YMCA where she had served on the Board of Management for several years. At the YMCA, Dr. Sutherland was the chair of the Healthy Living Committee and also served on the Executive Committee. She has been working to promote exercise, health, and nutrition in our patients and our community. Dr. Sutherland runs marathons and has competed in the Boston Marathon every year since 2011.

Tamara A. Charity-Brown, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Charity-brown is a mother of four who spends her time involved in family activities and foundations such as the girl scouts. She received her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA and completed her pediatric internship and pediatric residency at the Medical College of Virginia. She is designated as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She practiced in Petersburg for several years prior to joining Associates in Pediatrics in 2008. Dr. Charity-Brown’s interest include routine well child care, she specializes in ADHD and asthma management.

Dr. Charlotte (Bibbee) Vellenoweth

Dr. Charlotte (Bibbee) Vellenoweth is a native of West Virginia. She graduated from West Virginia University with a BS in Exercise Physiology and went on to earn her MD degree from WVU as well.  In 2014, she moved to Columbia, South Carolina to complete her pediatric residency at Palmetto Health Children's Hospital. Dr. Bibbee Joined Associates in Pediatrics in August 2017.  She now resides in Montpelier with her husband and their two dogs, Alice and Archer.  She enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors, traveling and yoga. Dr. Bibbee has recently gotten married and will be changing her last name to Vellenoweth as soon as we are able to update her medical credentials with her new last name.  

Dr. Lane

Dr. Lane received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. (UMDNJ-SOM) in Stratford NJ. She completed her pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughter (CHKD). She is designated as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She joined Associates in Pediatrics in 2015.

Keith A. Derco, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Derco received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his residency and chief pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital he was in private practice in FT Myers FLA for 14 years. He came to Richmond in 1995 to teach pediatrics at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia. In 2000, he founded Associates in Pediatrics. Dr. Derco has retired after providing four decades in pediatric care in July 2017.
